Garden Grant Program

Every year, Healthy Plants Foundation awards 24 school garden grants to K–12 schools across California, funding the creation and growth of living classrooms. Children discover the science of plants, the origins of their food, and the foundations of a sustainable future.

The Healthy Plants Foundation’s (HPF) School Garden Grant Program is dedicated to advancing the understanding and awareness of plant health, healthy food choices, and the importance of agriculture in the hearts and minds of California’s youth. By bringing living, growing classrooms to life, HPF empowers teachers to enrich their curriculum with firsthand experiences that connect students directly to the soil, the science of how plants grow, and the agricultural systems that sustain their communities.

Applications are accepted at any time and reviewed twice a year, on January 15th and June 15th. The application is designed to be straightforward and accessible. It is your opportunity to share the vision behind your garden project, demonstrate your commitment to long-term sustainability, and show how your school community will benefit from this investment. Applicants are required to include photographs and a detailed description of how the garden project is or will be integrated into classroom instruction. Applications that clearly articulate how students will explore plant growth and plant health are encouraged.
